Lezing Joris Luijendijk en Robert Fisk

Joris Luyendijk wrote Het Zijn Net Mensen (People like us. Images from the Middle East), a very insightful, critical as well as self-reflexive view on the problems concerning the practice of journalism in Arab countries. The author broadly states that western style journalism is almost an impossible task to perform in countries in which freedom of press is restricted. The news is practically always filtered, distorted, manipulated, one-sided and simplified. In his lecture he will provide us with the way his thinking has developed since the publishing of his best seller.

One of Luyendijks world famous colleagues is Robert Fisk, working for The Independent. Fisk became famous and notorious for his extensive reporting on the Middle East and the war in Iraq. He won several prizes and wrote best sellers like Pity the nation and The Great War for Civilisation. Lectures and discussions will be moderated by Kees Brants, professor in political communication at Leiden University.
